Re-designing Alan Gregory’s 50,000 product catalogue was an intimidating prospect, but one that came together nicely.
After the design was agreed, the biggest challenge was upgrading and uploading a store that takes nearly 24 hours to publish fully, while minimising interruption to the thriving online business.
The solution Random River struck upon was to upload the new store to a different place on the server, and then use server-side redirects to point all visitors and search engine traffic to the new pages. This meant switching to the live site took a matter of seconds rather than hours.
In addition, Random River switched Alan Gregory over to using new v11 product pages instead of their existing extended information pages. This means the upload is much quicker, and managing the store’s content is a lot simpler for the team there.
